The Great Matuku-Hūrepo Muster
Matuku-hūrepo (bittern) is a severely threatened species on the brink of extinction.
The best opportunity to estimate the population is to count the males while they are booming in the spring. Join us, whether this is learning a new skill or as an experienced birder!
The muster is on 3 consecutive days mid-September, mid-October and mid-November, so we’ll need many volunteers!
9 to 12 year-olds going bush!
Looking for nature-enthusiast tamariki who love an adventure. Let's go bush, explore Karioi, discover the great world of conservation through our environmental education programme!

Bagging Bait Up - Last Round!
Not everyone can head up Karioi with a backpack full of bait - but almost anyone can help pre-bag the toxins in preparation.
This work isn’t hard, but it is time-consuming -and many hands make light work of it! Bring your friends along because it’s also a great time to socialize while giving back to nature.
Let us know if you can make it - karioi.volunteer@arocha.org
Music and morning tea are provided.

Call out to Rangitahi Residents!
Rangitahi Peninsula - this one’s for you!
You’ve probably already noticed that rats, mice and possums can be found abundantly around the peninsula. Trapping and laying rodent bait can be an effective way of controlling invasive pests around your home. By all doing our bit, Rangitahi can be pest-free!
We’re here to help but we can’t do this without you.
Join us to find out more!
Track Maintenance Day
A great day out for new or existing volunteers!
We’d love to get a hand (or 20 of them!) to help clear some of our existing lines network.
This is a fun day out, with minimal gear to carry (or at least no toxins weighing you down!) - a walk in the park! Ok, this ‘park’ still consists of uneven and at times steep terrain, but an easier day than our popular bait deploy days!
