Local support for the Project

Local Raglan businesses have been stepping up to support the Karioi Project in a variety of ways. In supermarkets across New Zealand, you’ll see the Karioi project logo on products from Raglan Food Co, Raglan Chocolate, and Morning Glory Coffee. We asked these sponsors what inspired them to support us!

Raglan Chocolate

We live in Raglan and love it! We were introduced to the Karioi Project through our son Vincent who attended the education programmes. Mike also volunteers for the Karioi Project checking a trapline on Karioi. We want to do the best we can for the mountain and the environment here. We were inspired to put the Karioi Project logo on our packaging after seeing Morning Glory coffee, also made here in Raglan, doing it. Also, we were further inspired to support when the Patagonia company film crew came to Raglan to make a film about the Karioi Project. Patagonia is a founding member of the ‘1% for the Planet’ organisation https://www.onepercentfortheplanet.org donating 1% of sales (regardless of profit), to environmental causes. So, we thought that if we could give 1% of sales each year (regardless of profit) to the project, then it would help the people on the frontline to ultimately help the environment.

We are a very small company but feel compelled to do something and hope that others see the logo on our packaging and do the same or at least ask us about it.

Raglan Coconut Yogurt

Raglan Food Co has always been inspired by the locally run Karioi Project and the work they do for our community and the species within it - especially our seabirds. So we allocated part of our Raglan Community Fund to spread the word and focus on the awesome mahi they've done (and continue to do) to bring our local Oi bird back to Whaingaroa. We know our lid labels are loved far and wide by our customers, so we thought it was the perfect place and opportunity to raise awareness for the film the Karioi Project recently produced alongside Patagonia.

Morning Glory Coffee

“Think global, act local,” is my motto. People have the packet of coffee in their hands everyday, so it gives me an opportunity to educate and influence change - because knowledge is strength. Fifty cents from each kilo sold goes to the Karioi Project. I just want to roast the highest quality, yummiest, healthiest product for people but at the same time use it as a means to communicate about appropriate business practices. We are the Planet. We need to put the Planet first. We need to value biodiversity and hold on to what we’ve got left. Because it’s fast dissipating with the old economic model

The mountain on the Morning Glory logo represents Karioi and all mountains for their environmental, cultural and spiritual value around the world. They are the lifeline of our biodiversity. The coffee is grown on mountains in other parts of the world and roasted here in Raglan, in view of Karioi.
