Adopt a trapline!
Tēnā koe! Thanks for your interest in adopting a trapline!
The Karioi Project has over 3000 traps deployed across the maunga and neighbouring areas - with over 100 km of trap lines, all checked by over 100 volunteers! So far, we’ve trapped more than 30,000 predators, improving forest (and community!) health and making Karioi a haven for native wildlife.
The best way to volunteer regularly is to adopt a trapline. What does this mean?
You can head out on your trapline solo if you wish to, but you’ll be sharing ‘custody’ of your line with other volunteers. Therefore the frequency of trap-checking is shared amongst the small team, and when you go out is fairly flexible.
Good communication is the key to successful coordination between volunteers, their trapline buddy (or buddies!) and the volunteer coordinator.
Because of the training and induction involved, we ask for a six-month commitment period to ensure a consistent volunteer team.
So, if you are a good communicator, fit and healthy, available and committed for at least six months, the next step is to register as a volunteer and join the team!
